Minecraft Legends: Everything We Know About The New Strategy Spinoff
The overworld is morphing again, this time into Minecraft Legends, a new action strategy spinoff of Mojang's most popular crafting game. Legends will take you on an adventure through the biomes of the world, hunting and gathering resources to defend yourself from the forces of the Piglin that are threatening your territory. You will join with old foes, such as creepers and skeletons, into allies against the Nether's corruption. You can also invite your friends join you in online co-op.
The game will be revealed in June 2022 during the Xbox Showcase, Mojang gave just a little away about the plans for strategically directing your mob armies in Legends. The trailer clearly reveals that you'll be riding on horseback and looking like knights in iron armor and a lot more. We've learned everything we can about Minecraft Legends.
Is Minecraft Legends due to release?
There isn't a specific version yet. Mojang has stated that Minecraft Legends will launch sometime in 2023. MINECRAFT don't know more than that yet. What we do know is that Minecraft Legends was revealed during the Xbox Showcase in June 2022, which Microsoft stressed was focused on games that would launch within the next 12 months. If everything goes as planned, then Minecraft Legends will be released in the first half of 2023.
When it is released We know that Minecraft Legends will launch on PC, consoles, and be included in Xbox Game Pass.

Although this is an unofficial teaser, there's much more to the Minecraft Legends trailer. It even gives a glimpse of gameplay. The first bits here are of course an animated cinematic similar to the kind that Mojang occasionally creates for other Minecraft reveals and projects.
Minecraft Legends "tells the story of the Overworld coming together to fight an attack by the ferocious piglins" it states. "According to the legend, only you can unite the mobs of the Overworld and assist them in protecting their home."
It is therefore logical, that the player is riding their horse at the head of a massive army of creepers, zombies and Skeletons. It's like long-standing enemies will come together to slay the piglins that reside in the Nether.
So what is the Minecraft Legends gameplay like?
Here's Mojang's announcement post about Legends: "You will defend peaceful settlements, and fight hordes piglins in order to stop their Nether corruption." You are the center of every battle you fight fighting alongside your allies while giving them direction."
If you pay attention to the trailer, you'll be able to see a few glimpses of the trailer. The player rides on a horse, and is followed by mobs. They are waving a blue flag, which makes it appear as if they are calling their army to their location. It also shows the player and their mob pals fighting a horde of animals and attacking a grim Nether fort, which has a portal at its center.
It's not the same type of building and crafting you'd see in regular Minecraft and is different from Minecraft Dungeons (opens new tab). Legends will have you riding on horses and leading your mob and aiming a sword at your piglin adversaries.
In another livestream, Mojang Studios executive producer Dennis Ries says "as you explore the lush biomes, you find resources and use those resources to build defenses."
It's easy to take an instant glimpse of those fortifications of the players in the trailer too: a player stands close to a large oak log fortress rises into place.
Is there multiplayer in Minecraft Legends? Crossplay?
Yes! Minecraft Legends will have co-op and competitive multiplayer, Xbox has announced. We're still not sure about multiplayer.
Crossplay is something we can almost ensure will be available for Xbox and PC players. Since Mojang added cross-platform multiplayer to Minecraft Dungeons for PC and all consoles, it seems reasonable to assume that it will push for that in the first game with Legends.
Who is developing Minecraft Legends?
Mojang is not actually developing Minecraft Legends. It's being developed by Blackbird Interactive. This studio also created the spaceship deconstruction sim Hardspace Shipbreaker which we reviewed with 91% satisfaction. They're also working on RTS Crossfire Legion.
